They say (whoever "they" are) you should always turn around and look behind you. I did as we were climbing up to a mountain top (care of a 4x4) on madeira and I saw this view.

Nice, we really like Madeira - getting a bit too busy nowadays though for us and our last landing was a bit scary....

It's better now than it used to be before they lengthened the runway. The first time we went, the pilot apologised for having to use his reverse thrusters before we touched down. On this occasion, we spent two days waiting for the wind to drop before our incoming A/C could land - but we like it none the less.

They had lengthened the runway but due to the crosswinds we touched down so hard I was sure we had lost the undercarriage. We took off again circled for about 30 mins and managed to land on our 3rd attempt, must admit it gave me the willies..... I'm not a fan of flying at the best of times....

I like this John, particularly the brightness of the church which draws attention exactly where you want it..

I flew into Kai Tak in Hong Kong a few times before it closed. On the western approach you could see though apartment windows and know what they were watching on TV. I swear a few planes picked up wet laundry on their wing tips.

Thanks both. The brightness was down to it being early morning and a low(ish) sun. Helped illuminate the cloud as well which is what initially caught my attention.

Nice image John been there a few times, I have a good image on my wall from there, of my wife with a view across a valley. Its a photographers dream place.

Thanks Helen, thanks Flack.

We were on our way to the observatory but disappointingly, when we got there it was blanketed in cloud and so the views I'd hoped for weren't visible. Next time......

Very nice photo - I really like the processing. Just the right amount of light and detail on the building - the clouds make it a special image.
