Deal with featureless sky

As said elsewhere on forum I am trying to get back into my photography - one problem I'm finding is that I've forgotten how to do things (or even what i might try to do).

In this case I have a relatively small sky that is totally featureless

I'm a bit stumped on what I might do with it - with or without AI o_O:eek::oops:

I'd be cropping the image - probably square - so the sky will be even smaller

At this stage I'm not even looking for detailed instructions - more some idea of what others might do eg bin the image and move on, or 'do something'?

Any comments welcomed:)

It doesn't look to me as though it's an image that really needs a detailed sky. It might look a bit forced. It looks right for the conditions, if you will, and that line of nothing running through the top creates a shape of its own.

Hadn’t thought of that (= do nothing) - thanks Toby:)

Other views also welcome - ‘the more the merrier’

I'd be tempted to convert to monochrome, trim it, warm the tone slightly (dulls the sky) and reduce the mid tones by 10% or so. I ran out of resolution with the JPEG but something along these lines. Use or lose.

I think if the sky is blown out as here, it is a lost cause and if it was mine I would scrap it. But if you are keen to save it and are prepared to be radical and the image will stand it, you could crop out the top of the image to just above the faintly visible buildings in the far distance. Most of the leading lines then converge on the man with the brolly which is quite dynamic. Whether that is too far away from your original vision of the scene though I can’t say

Great suggestions - thanks for these.

At this stage I have no idea which one(s) I'd go for - but I'd like to get something out of it for personal reasons :)

?????? if/when I act on them .... will it still be 'All my own work' ??????

If the sky is not the main focal point of the photograph, don't worry about it.
All that you need to do is make sure it has some tone which is not as bright as paper white if printing or if only display on screen then make sure its lower than at least RGB 250

Thanks Ian - always good to hear your view, and need sense.

Some kind of consensus may be emerging

But if others gave a different view then fire away

Interesting point but yes, I think,it will be your own work because you will have chosen which suggestion to act on, plus you will act on it in your own way. No one will have adjusted the image for you.
