This was taken at Shore Acres State Park in Oregon. I waited several hours for this wave to appear (but it was a wonderful few hours). Processed with darktable.
As far as the amount of highlight/shadow processing it's pretty much exposure + b&w conversion + tone mapping + contrast + local contrast. Contrast and local contrast are selectively applied. I definitely pushed the blacks and whites to their limit but I think that suited this photo. Difficult for me to explain because I use darktable and it's a fair bit different than Lightroom. Not sure if that answers your question but if not let me know.
Thanks. There are some very good tools in my processing software to ensure the highlights are never blown and the shadows aren't crushed - although I don't mind if the shadows are crushed a little bit. Once I add the contrast I will always go back and tweak the highlights/shadows.
