Nikon Coolscan 4000ED Firewire Card

I picked up a Coolscan 4000ED a while back, but it requires a Firewire Card and connection. There seem to be various different types, some with different numbers of 'pins'. Could anyone of our more technologically wise members please point me in the right direction.

Depending on what computer you have, you may already have Firewire built into the Motherboard

Thanks Ian. I use a win 10 PC, and I can find no reference to firewire in it.

What sort of cable would this require?

There are 2 types of Firewire connectors, 6 pin and 9 pin
From memory, the Nikon uses a 6 pin and the Firewire Cards are also usually 6 pin

Here is a 6 pin to 6 pin cable

If you look at the rear of the scanner, the socket should look s though it will take the above cable

Does this mean no scanner without a new PC, or is there an alternative?

From what I can see, your motherboard uses PCI-Express cards which are later than PCI

You will need something like this

Look at the images and make sure the connectors look as though they will fit your cable

Ah, that looks more like it. I've got to check the socket on the back of the scanner to see if it's 6 or 9 pin.
